Ohio Rivers
The
streams and rivers of Ohio are as rich in history as they are beautiful. Indian
villages and Ohio’s frontier settlements were built on their banks.
The Little
Miami River, renowned for its beautiful scenery, rises in Clark County and
rushes through narrow Clifton Gorge in John
Bryan. In the typically flat country of western Ohio, the 4-mile- long gorge
cut by glacial waters is a magnificent exception to the geography. Farther
downstream, the Little Miami
Scenic Park provides a linear corridor along the river, where one can enjoy
its beauty on foot, bike or horseback.
Little
Beaver Creek was the first stream
included in the state’s wild and scenic river system. Whether canoeing beneath
sandstone cliffs or crossing the stream on horseback, in Beaver
Creek State Park one can experience the wilderness spirit of Ohio.
The confluence of the
Walhonding and Tuscarawas rivers creates the Muskingum,
the largest stream contained solely within the state. Part of the historic
significance of this river is maintained in the Muskingum River Parkway’s
series of hand-operated locks.
The
RiverView Bed and Breakfast Inn is a modern,
California-style home with an elevated wrap-around deck located on four
beautiful acres neighboring Holiday Point Marina on the Ohio River in
Franklin Furnace, Ohio. It
is decorated with one-of-a-kind hand pieced quilts, creating a relaxed,
intimate atmosphere. The
views are outstanding! |
Currently Ohio has 11 river systems included
as components of the State Scenic Rivers Program totaling 20 individual stream
segments.
